Day 4: Goat Hair Kilims Woven in Geraki

Day 4: We were very happy to take a break to shear and milk goats in the hills over Geraki. Many thanks to our host, the exceptional shepherd, Mr. Dimitrios Fiflis. Mr. Fiflis, who loves his work, is descended from generations of shepherds. Although we were offered a small kid, we could not imagine how to bring her home on the plane. Many kilims from Geraki were woven from goat hair, including an exceptional kilim that formed part of the dowry of Adamantia (Diamanto) Georgiou Sarrou, who married Athanasios Dalianis on August 21, 1916.
