DESCRIPTION:Join us for Kouvenda. For Zoom link\, materials\, and further information\, please contact Associate Director\, Dr. Simos Zenios (szenios@humnet.ucla.edu). \n5-6 pm: virtual language table for students of Modern Greek and members of the community. Interested community members will take on a mentoring role and will participate in language learning at UCLA\, while the students will be able to benefit from regular conversations with native and advanced speakers of Greek. The language table is open to all Southern California college and university students studying Greek or with proficiency in the language. \n6-7 pm: open discussion for Greek speakers about Greek summer.  Both a season that is lived and one that we construct in our thought and imagination (a “state of mind”)\, the Greek summer invites cordial discussions and reflections on what makes Greece unique for its inhabitants and its visitors. We will discuss topics on an individual level (What does your Greek summer look like? How will you recreate it this year?) and on a broader one (How has the Greek state chosen to present Greece as a travel destination throughout the decades and in various media? How is the Greek summer presented in recent films?).
