DESCRIPTION:Voyage to Cythera (Taxidi sta Kithira) Greece\, 1984 \nAfter years living in exile in the Soviet Union\, a communist resistance fighter\, Spyros (Manos Katrakis)\, returns home to the dismay of his family and neighbors. His son Alexandros (Giulio Brogi) is a filmmaker casting a movie set during the German occupation while the villagers of his hometown are on the verge of transforming their rural farmland into a tourist resort. With his sudden\, defiant presence\, Spyros threatens to disrupt their efforts to excise the past through art or commerce. A reworking of the myth of Odysseus’ return\, Cythera is the first film in Angelopoulos’ “Trilogy of Silence.” \n35mm\, color\, in Greek with English subtitles\, 133 min. Director: Theo Angelopoulos.
