Funding Opportunities for UCLA Students
For 2024-25, application procedures have changed for most of the graduate fellowships below. Please read the procedures and requirements carefully and note the different application deadlines.
GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS
Peter and Vivi Demopoulos Endowed Graduate Research Fellowship, Award: up to $4,000
This fellowship supports graduate student travel to Greece for research during the summer.
To apply, please submit to hellenic@humnet.ucla.edu the following documents:

James and Carolyn Kolokotrones Endowed Graduate Research Fellowship , Award: up to $4,000
This fellowship supports graduate student travel to Greece for research during the summer.

George Olympios Family Endowed Graduate Research Fellowship , Award: up to $2,000
This fellowship supports graduate student travel to Greece for research during the summer.

The George and Cleola Gavalas Fund for Archaeology, Award: up to $2,500
This fund is used to support students studying archaeology in Greece, from any period of the country’s history.

Aristides G. Alexopoulos Endowment Student Fund for Students in Need, Award: up to $5,000
This fund provides assistance in the form of small need-based awards to continuing UCLA students in financial need (paid as scholarships to undergraduates, or fellowships to graduate students), with preference given to undergraduate and graduate students of Hellenic descent or with parents of Greek citizenship.
Apply through the Financial Aid Office scholarship portal:
- You must complete an online “UCLA Scholarship Application” available through MyUCLA or scholarship portal.
- Supplemental Question (required): UCLA SNF Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture: Please describe your family connection to Greece and why you should be chosen for this fellowship, not to exceed 250 words (maximum of 2,000 characters including spaces)
- You must submit a FAFSA or Dream Act application by the March 2 priority deadline EVERY YEAR to be considered for need-based scholarships.
- Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in order to continue to receive scholarships.

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Vlahakis-Hanks Undergraduate Scholarship, Award: up to $3,000
This scholarship is available to continuing UCLA undergraduate students in the College of Letters and Science. Eligible students must demonstrate leadership in Hellenic causes, environmental issues, or community empowerment.
Apply through the Financial Aid Office scholarship portal
- You must complete an online “UCLA Scholarship Application” available through MyUCLA or scholarship portal.
- Personal Statement (required): Complete as part of above basic application, not to exceed 250 words.
- Leadership Statement (required): Describe in 350-500 words (maximum of 4,000 characters including spaces) how you demonstrate leadership in one or more of these areas: Hellenic causes, environmental issues, or community empowerment.

OTHER STUDENT AWARDS
The Gus and Judie Christopoulos Award for Modern Greek Language Study
This annual merit-based award is provided to the student with the best performance in the first year of Modern Greek language courses.
