East Meets West: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Greece’s History and Culture

The Angelo K. Tsakopoulos Hellenic Studies Center, Sacramento State

April 11-13, 2025

Proposal submission deadline: December 1, 2024

The Western Consortium for Hellenic Studies invites the submission of proposals for its biannual Hellenic Studies Student Conference. The theme of this year’s conference is: East Meets West: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Greece’s History and Culture. The conference, which will take place on the Sacramento State campus, includes a workshop at the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection (April 11, 2:00-4:00 pm) and a musical performance, “East Meets West,” by the Orestes Koletsos Ensemble on the evening of April 11.

Advanced undergraduate and graduate students from west coast universities interested in participating in this year’s conference are requested to submit a proposal of no more than 350 words. The conference organizers are interested in papers that examine Greece’s interactions with the East or West in the Ancient, Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern periods. The conference will provide an opportunity for students to present their work to an interdisciplinary audience and to participate in a discussion that seeks to create stronger ties between students and scholars working in different time periods and disciplines.

The deadline for submission of proposals is December 1, 2024. Please send your proposal digitally to Nikki Erinakis (nerinakis@humnet.ucla.edu). Late submissions will not be considered. The program committee for the conference is: Sharon Gerstel (UCLA), Alexander Hollmann (University of Washington), Dimitris Krallis (Simon Fraser University), and Katerina Lagos (Sacramento State).
